Bereaved Families of Ontario - Midwestern Region

Bereaved Families of Ontario - Midwestern Region (BFO-MR) provides peer grief and bereavement support to families and individuals in Waterloo Region, Guelph and Wellington County and surrounding areas. Our facilitators, who are bereaved themselves, bring compassion and a unique understanding to our programs. Volunteers are extensively trained so they not only bring their personal experiences and grief journeys to the programs they facilitate, but also the necessary education and resources to ensure a positive experience for our members. Current programs If we dont have a program suited to your specific needs or comfort level, we have extensive connections in the community and can help you find alternative support options. Through these connections, we also stay up-to-date about changing needs in the community and keep our programming flexible so we can adapt and provide programs and services where they are needed most. There are 10 BFO affiliates whose work is carried out in communities throughout Ontario.

Our Mission: To provide an empathetic community of peer support and education for individuals and families who are grieving. Our Vision: The bereaved helping the bereaved so that no one has to walk alone through their journey of grief. Our Values: Empathy: We embody a culture of compassion and understanding that everyones grief experience is unique, and that those who have walked the grief journey can help those who are new to it. Education: We believe educating the community about the grief experience contributes to the healing process, helps lessen the stigma of grief and bereavement and creates opportunities for conversation. Gratitude: We are grateful for the opportunity to support the bereaved in our community and thankful for the generosity of our donors who make it possible. Respect: We treat our staff and volunteers with kindness and appreciation for their skills, time and contributions to our organization. Confidentiality: We hold member confidentiality to the highest standard and provide a safe and secure environment to travel griefs journey. Accountability: We are accountable to the membership to ensure the needs of the bereaved are being met efficiently, effectively and responsibly. DIVERSITY AND EQUITY COMMITMENT: BFO-MRs Board of Directors, leadership and staff are committed to diversity and equity work. We have started this work internally and know that in order to best serve the diversity of people who live in our communities, this work must be intentional and ongoing.
