The Navigi standard
navigi.ca is a free directory of community services across Canada, published by HelpSeeker Technologies. This page states what we commit to for every person who uses it, and how to hold us to it. It is published so that it can be checked, not so that it can be admired.
1. Crisis first
If you are in danger, call 911. If you are thinking about suicide, call or text 988. Both lines appear at the top of every page on this site, before anything else, and they are never removed from any page for any reason.
Crisis services are pinned at the top of results whenever a search or a category could include them. They are never ranked below other listings.
Every page carries a Quick exit control. It leaves this site at once and replaces this page in your browser history with the site it sends you to. It cannot erase pages you visited earlier. The safety page explains what it does and does not do, and how to clear your history in each browser.
2. Every listing says how current it is
Every listing shows a "Last verified" date and a confidence level. Listings we have not been able to check say "Not yet verified". A listing whose last verification is more than two years old says "Contact the organization to confirm", with the ways we have to reach the organization beside it.
We would rather tell you a listing may be out of date than let you find out at a closed door.
3. Anyone can report a change
Every listing has a "Report a change" link. You do not need an account, a name or an email address to use it. Until that form is live, which we expect in launch week, write to info@helpseeker.org and we treat your message the same way.
We review every report within five business days. If you leave an email address, we reply to it within that window. Either way, once we can confirm the change with the organization or a public source, the listing is corrected.
4. Where we have few listings, we say so
Coverage is uneven across the country. Where a community has few listings, its page says "Few listings here yet" rather than pretending otherwise. Any organization that serves that community can claim or add its listing free of charge, and we ask them to.
5. The site stays up
Our target is 99.5 percent availability in every calendar month, measured on the community and listing pages.
Status: operating normally
When we miss the target, we say so on this page, with what happened and what changed as a result.
6. We do not track people looking for help
The directory pages set no cookies. No third-party analytics or advertising code runs on them. We do not store what you type into search.
The only thing we record is that a page was viewed or that a phone number or email link on a listing was used, the hour it happened, and whether the visit came from a search engine, an AI assistant or a direct link. The time we record for each event is truncated to the hour. The privacy page lists exactly what is recorded and what is not.
7. Indigenous-led services speak for themselves
Where a listing is for a service led by a First Nation, by Inuit or by Métis, we do not describe or rate it in our own words. The listing carries the organization's own description, verbatim, with a link to the organization's or the nation's own listing where one exists.
We do not restate or paraphrase any Indigenous data governance standard on this site, because those standards are not ours to interpret. For OCAP®, we refer you to the First Nations Information Governance Centre, which authored it. For what is acceptable with a nation's own data, we refer you to that nation.
HelpSeeker's First Nations Data Policy continues to apply, including its rule that we do not map services in First Nations communities, and its removal timeline for any Indigenous organization that does not wish to be listed.
Where the listings come from
Listings come from public sources: organizations' own websites and public registries, collected by HelpSeeker and checked over time. The date on each listing is the last time we checked it, or the last time the organization confirmed it. Organizations can claim their listing and keep it current at no cost. The about the data page explains the sources, the confidence levels and the limits in more detail.
Holding us to this
If we fall short of any commitment on this page, tell us. Use "Report a change" on the listing concerned, or write to info@helpseeker.org. We publish changes to this standard on this page, with the date of each change.
