Where the listings come from

Every listing on this site traces to a public source: the organization's own website, or a public registry such as the Canada Revenue Agency's list of registered charities or a provincial corporate registry. HelpSeeker collected these listings over several years and checked them against those sources; the "Last verified" date on each listing falls between 2022 and 2025. In March 2026 we also checked whether each organization's website was still live. That check does not move the "Last verified" date; where it applies, the listing shows a separate line, "Website checked March 2026".

Some names lost their accents, and some descriptions lost their apostrophes, in an earlier export. We have restored the ones we could confirm. If you see one we missed, tell us and we correct it.

We do not copy listings from other directories. Some communities also publish their own directory with us; where they do, the community page says so and links to it, and the date on those listings is the day we captured that directory.

What "Last verified" means

The "Last verified" date is the last time we confirmed the listing against the organization's published information or a public registry, or the last time the organization itself confirmed it. It is shown as a month and a year. It is not the date the organization last changed anything, and it is not a promise that nothing has changed since. A listing with no date of its own shows "Source snapshot" and the month of the export it came from instead of a "Last verified" date.

What the confidence level means

Every listing carries one of three levels.

Verified by the organization. Someone at the organization claimed the listing and confirmed or updated it. This is the highest level, and the only one that carries the organization's own description in its own words.
Verified by HelpSeeker. We checked the listing against the organization's website or a public registry on the date shown.
Not yet verified. We collected the listing from a public source and have not yet been able to check it. These listings show "Source snapshot" rather than "Last verified".

Whatever the level, a listing whose last verification is more than two years old also says "Contact the organization to confirm", with the ways we have to reach the organization beside it. We would rather tell you a listing may be out of date than let you find out at a closed door.

Why some listings are approximate

Addresses. Some organizations publish an office address rather than the place a service is delivered. Some services have no fixed address at all.
Hours. Opening hours change faster than we can check them. Treat them as a guide and confirm before a long trip.
Eligibility. Who a service is for is written in the organization's own words, which may be out of date.
Categories. We sort every listing into a set of service areas so that people can browse. The sorting is ours, and a service may fit more than one area.
Names. The registered name of an organization is sometimes not the name people know it by.

How to correct or claim a listing

Report a change. Every listing has a "Report a change" link. Anyone can use it, without an account, a name or an email address. We review every report within five business days and correct the listing once we can confirm the change.

Claim your listing. If you work for the organization, you can claim its listing free of charge. A claimed listing shows "Verified by the organization", carries your own description of the service, and can be kept current by you from then on. There is no paid tier for listings.

Remove a listing. Any organization can ask for its listing to be removed. Write to info@helpseeker.org from an address at the organization.

What is deliberately not on this site

No personal information. We publish organizations, programs, services and places. We do not publish information about the people who use them, and we publish role or general contact addresses rather than personal ones.
No ratings, reviews or paid placement. No organization can pay to appear higher or to appear at all.
No listings copied from other directories.
No services in First Nations communities, in line with HelpSeeker's First Nations Data Policy. Where an Indigenous-led service in a city or town is listed, it is described only in the organization's own words, and it can be removed at the organization's request.
No tracking of the people who use the site. The privacy page lists what is recorded and what is not.
