Parents Grieving the Death of a Child

8-Week Program which runs twice a year - spring and fall, however we accept registrations year round. This group is for parents (individuals or couples) who have experienced the death of a child, including adult children. Your child is your child no matter how young or old they are. Every parent expects their child to outlive them. No matter their age, the death of a child can turn your whole life upside down. Our 8-week group offers a safe space to connect with other grieving parents, to share your story and to support one another through your loss. All of our groups are run by trained volunteers who are bereaved parents themselves. Everyone in the room has experienced the death of their child; you are not alone. What you can expect: Our sessions include group discussion and topic-specific activities that explore different aspects of grief, such as: Coping with special days and memorializing Diversity in grief Changing relationships Returning to work There is no right way to grieve, there is only your way to grieve. Through our support groups, we hope that you will experience personal growth and learn new tools for adapting to your new normal. These documents outline how our groups are organized and gives you information on the peer-support model Bereaved Families of Ontario-Midwestern Region uses. One-on-One Peer Support: Because our groups for bereaved parents run twice a year, one-on-one support acts as a monthly check-in before the next group starts. This support cannot be guaranteed as it depends on the availability of our peer support volunteers.
