Metis Local 1990 is an organization based in the Grande Prairie Region of Alberta, Canada, formed with the goal of promoting the socio-economic and cultural well-being of the Metis people. The organization functions under the Metis Nation of Alberta Region 6. The four key areas of focus for Metis Local 1990 include Governance, Relationships, Partnership, and People. The organization aims to reinforce the Metis operational capacity, participate in policy development, support initiatives that enhance the quality of life of Metis people, and promote partnerships that uplift their economic conditions. Founded in 1990, the organization also undertakes initiatives such as the Effective Parenting Program and Elders Caring Shelter to support local Metis families and elders. The organization operates with values of fairness, respect, unity, integrity, and professionalism.
