Indigenous scholarships are offered by Alberta Blue Cross to help address the education inequality faced by Indigenous communities in Alberta. These scholarships aim to make post-secondary education more financially accessible for Indigenous students, with scholarships based on academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. Two types of scholarships are offered: one for students completing high school and entering their first year of post-secondary study, and another for mature students entering their first year of post-secondary education. Each scholarship is worth $1,500. All applicants must clearly describe their community involvement, personal goals, and financial need, and also submit three reference letters. The selection of recipients is managed by an external committee with expertise in academia and Indigenous education. The application process typically opens on September 1st each year. One of the recipients, Luke Klug, used his scholarship to further his aspirations to become a physical therapist.
