About this organization

AWAC evolved out of an identified need and gap in services to homeless, addicted and otherwise severely marginalized women and female youth. This population of women experiences many barriers to even receiving basic services, often related to their substance use or lifestyle. The women are often labelled as non-compliant, unreliable, uncooperative and not interested in receiving help or in making changes. In reality, the vast majority of our clients are desperate for positive change, but they are usually unable to meet the unrealistic and restrictive conditions required by service providers.
