MIELS-Quebec - Peer Groups

The women's group and the " Adventurers " group regularly hold voluntary monthly gatherings of a social, cultural or sporting nature of people to exchange their experiences in the face of similar difficulties. Participants also share coping strategies and feel better understood. The members who are part of these groups say they are very happy to have the opportunity to share their realities with their peers and to develop meaningful ties that contribute to breaking the isolation that is too often present. We note that these groups promote coping skills, self- efficacy, social support, and that they decrease self-stigma among other things. These groups also make it possible to prevent certain risky practices, while improving knowledge on the evolution of the reality of HIV-AIDS and available therapies.
