Engaging in the community has always been a vital part of the work of CCVT.
CCVT BEFRIENDING PROGRAM - Torture is state-organized violence that destroys the will, personality and autonomy of survivors. Research shows that while physical injuries can be treated, psychological and social adaptation effects are present many years after the trauma (Abai 1993, p. 20). As a result, survivors of torture have complex needs that require attention and involvement from the community. Survivors may have left behind support networks, including those of family, friends, and kinship.
