About this service
Youth A-Float Education
Each Broad Reach vessel can accommodate 8-10 participants, with sailings scheduled for Monday through Friday, July through August. Each sail lasts for about 4-5 hours on Lake Ontario. Some youth can experience only one sail, given their physical or mental challenges. Others can sail for 3-5 days in a row, depending on the circumstances of the social agency, and the scheduling available for the youth.
Before setting sail, the youth receive safety instruction, an orientation on the components of the vessel, and an explanation of how the PFD works (Personal Flotation Device = life-jacket). The PFDs are worn at all times.
