About this organization
COED, Continuing On In Education, is an incorporated non-profit organization based in Belleville, Ontario. Formed in 1986, it aims to provide individualized learning to support communication, relationship building, and skill development for people aged 16 and over with disabilities within the Quinte Region. It was set up by representatives from multiple agencies including William R. Kirk School, Cheshire Homes, and A.R.C. Industries. COED's educational endeavors are based on a life skills component and functional academics, as per the Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines. Despite facing funding elimination from the Provincial government in 1996, it continues to operate through community fundraising, private and corporate donations, and support from United Way HPE. COED's programs are consistently evolving to meet the changing needs of the individuals they support and societal expectations. The organization is directed by a volunteer Board of Directors that represents various community members including students' parents/caregivers, educational staff, and private citizens.
