The Poverty Law Advocacy program provides a range of services including:
- Residential/tenancy issues
- Employment standards
- Accessing disability benefits: government (provincial & federal), and private benefits
- Minor civil issues
- Debt issues
- Aboriginal status registration
- Commissioner of Oaths
For issues that go beyond the scope of this program (such as criminal, family law, or major civil issues), the Poverty Law Advocate provides referrals to appropriate resources.
The Family Law Advocacy program assists clients in a range of family law issues, such as court orders, custody, and divorce. The Family Law Advocate assists clients in the preparation of court forms, paperwork, and evidence, and supports clients in hearings and court proceedings. Referrals are provided as needed to other programs at the Friendship Centre, and community service providers, and legal-aid resources.
Funding for these programs is provided by the Law Foundation of British Columbia.
