Roots of Empathy is a program designed to foster empathy and emotional literacyamong primary and elementary school children. Established by Mary Gordon in 1996, it strives to achieve peaceful, caring societies by reducing aggression and bullying levels, promoting positive behaviors, and improving social/emotional competence. The program, which is implemented in all Canadian provinces and three continents, involves monthly visits by a baby and its parents to a local classroom, allowing children to understand a baby's needs and observe a parent-baby relationship. When reaching rural, urban, and remote areas, including Aboriginal communities, it plays a significant role in preparing students for responsible citizenship and responsive parenting.
