About Us Who are we and what do we do. Haven Family Connections was incorporated on March 15th, 1976 and we are a registered charity. The love of family is critical for childrens success. Haven Family Connections was started with a radical vision that included childrens rights and prevention of family break-up, and that is the heart of our work. Families belong together. Giving families the tools they need to stay together, gives kids a better chance, and our community is stronger for it. Together we strive to build a foundation for families and children. Haven Family Connections is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are funded by both the Ministry of Social Services and our generous donors and business community. We are grateful for the ongoing support of K+S Potash in ensuring children and youth have a safe space at the Kids House. Mission Through preventative respite and active intervention, we work together to strengthen and preserve families. Families belong together. Vision Families are actively supported to stay together, keeping children safe, and reducing the need for child- protective services and crisis intervention in their lives and in our community. Philosophy of Care We offer family and child-centred care. We value anti-oppressive and trauma-informed care that respects autonomy and harm reduction. Culture is an important part of the healing journey. We are compassionate allies in the lives of families and children. We are a piece in the circle of care: linking with other agencies will strengthen our support of families and children dealing with systemic disadvantages, discrimination, multi-generational trauma, and barriers to living well. The recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission need to be foundational to what we do. We recognise that the journey of reconciliation is a process, and we wish to create and maintain respectful, resilient relationships. The families and children that we serve have intrinsic rights: to skilled support, confidentiality, safety, information, self-determination and respect. Core Values We prioritise the family relationship as a primary need; families should and can stay together, and if support is needed, we offer it. We strive for a future when the long term separation of children from their extended families and cultures is no longer a common solution to address the lives of families at risk in our city. We respect that we have been invited into the lives of families; families are experts on their own needs. A relationship built on trust is fundamental. We acknowledge, recognise and honour that we operate on the traditional lands, referred to as Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis.
