About this service
The program offers newcomer families crisis counselling, group learning experiences, and in-home visits. The program helps families with complex needs to identify their strengthens and build on them by:
- assisting parents to develop effective management skills so they can parent their children in a more positive and healthy manner
- teaching daily living skills and personal wellness in a Canadian cultural context
- reducing destructive behaviours in families and strengthen the parent child attachment
- reducing isolation and increasing involvement in community life
- connecting parents with community resources
The Newcomer Family Support Program provides newcomer families with prevention and early intervention services aimed to:
- Reduce stress within family
- Enhance the parent-child relationship
- Promote good nutrition
- Emphasize child safety
- Promote positive parenting
- Assist in establishing daily routines
- Encourage healthy adult relationships
- Establish connection to community resources
