About this service
GECDSB is dedicated to supporting the success of Indigenous learners and promoting an awareness of Indigenous culture and history for all students and staff. As a self-identified student your child may be entitled to extra academic support, cultural activities and other extra curricular opportunities through funding provided by the Ministry of Education.
FNMI Student Support Workers are available in both elementary and secondary schools to:
- work with individual students to increase academic and classroom success
- encourage the inclusion of Indigenous culture in schools to create a sense of belonging for our youth as well as bring awareness to the school community.
- work with parents to strengthen the home-school relationship
This program is available throughout the school year to ensure that all FNMI students have the opportunity to engage in the unique experiences offered by the School Board. Individual school support will be differentiated based on student and parent interest.
