About this service

Nellies operates a 36-bed Emergency Shelter for women and their children who are leaving situations of violence, poverty, and homelessness. Our crisis and intake line is open 24-hours and if we do not have space to take women at our Shelter, we will refer them to another shelter. Unfortunately, our shelter is often at full occupancy and therefore we are regularly forced to turn away women and children who need our services due to lack of space. Women and children at our shelter live communally, sharing the responsibilities of household chores including cooking and cleaning. Once a week after dinner, the women at Nellies gather in the living room for a House Meeting. This presents an opportunity to spend time with one another, bond over snacks, and discuss important house issues.
