About this organization
The Parent-Child Mother Goose program was created in 1986 at the request of a social worker at Children's Aid Toronto who was in despair at his inability to intervene in families suffering generations of dysfunction. The rhyme, song and story-based group program succeeded because it showed mothers how to create secure attachment with their babies aged 0 to 3, and it was highly enjoyable. At the same time, the program gives babies' brain the right kind of stimulation during the most critical development period of their entire lives. The peaks in a child's brain development -- for literacy, numerary, social skills and emotional control -- all occur from ages one to three. Consequently investing in early child education and care has a greater ROI than investment made at any other stage of development. Long term benefits include higher rates of high school graduation, employment, and earnings; and lower rates of arrest or incarceration, risky behaviour, and health costs.
