The Organization: We are a multi-disciplinary team of women committed to providing exceptional, respectful and appropriate service to women who have and are experiencing violence or the effects of violence, crisis and abuse. We are a diverse, dedicated group, striving to be part of the solution to eradicate all forms of violence against women, first and foremost through the provision of the crisis line service. The Helpline staff team is also committed to working in a coordinated way with community partners and sister agencies towards bridging gaps in service and identifying emerging issues or trends relevant to the women we work with. The Assaulted Womens Helpline provides a safe space, free of judgment anytime, day or night, to support, listen and guide women who have experienced any type of abuse anywhere in Ontario. Our Province Wide Objectives: To provide free, confidential and anonymous crisis counselling, emotional support, information and referrals via telephone in up to 200+ languages from a feminist perspective. AWHL is committed to exploring new technologies to address the service delivery needs of the women we help. Reducing Barriers to Service Access for: Women who are hard of hearing or deaf through the use of TTY and online counselling; Women with disAbilities, immigrant and refugee women, women of colour, lesbians, bi-sexual women, transgendered women, senior women, rural and Northern women by using integrated analysis Improve Education and Awareness on Issues of Abuse and Violence Against Women: By providing support, information and referrals to friends and family members of abused women, service providers and other professionals in contact with abused women To utilize statistical information gathered to advocate for abused women on relevant issues, trends and to identify emerging issues and gaps in service; To work cooperatively with all levels of government to eradicate violence against women.

Who are we and what do we do? About Assaulted Women's Helpline For over 30 years, the Assaulted Womens Helpline has served as a free, anonymous and confidential 24-hour telephone and TTY crisis telephone line to all women in the province of Ontario who have experienced any form of abuse. We provide crisis counselling, safety planning, emotional support, information and referrals accessible 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We work in tandem with community partners and sister agencies towards bridging gaps in service and identifying emerging issues or trends relevant to the women we work with. Deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Assaulted Womens Helpline has a TTY line available at 1-866-863-7868 Survivors of abuse or domestic violence may sometimes face the same issue: abuse thrives in isolation. This can be especially true for survivors of domestic violence who are deaf, deaf blind or hard of hearing. The Helpline strives to educate the public about the need for deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing services. The safe and strictly confidential services that the Helpline offers to deaf survivors through the tele-typewriter relay is another resource women can rely on. The Need Violence against women is a serious and widespread issue in Canada. According to Statistics Canada, more than 67% of Canadian women over the age of 16 have been victims of violence. Almost every week, a woman in Ontario dies at the hands of her partner, and over $7.4 billion to deal with the aftermath of spousal violence alone, according to the Department of Justice
