Children's Centre Thunder Bay - Day Treatment Program

This program provides two specialized classrooms in which students attend a modified school day (usually 9:15 am - 2:15 pm), with each classroom limited to eight students. The school day consists of both academic instruction from a board certified teacher, as well as mental health treatment from Child and Youth Workers. A Social Worker (case manager) supports each student and their family, while the classroom staff is supported by a multidisciplinary clinical team at Children's Centre Thunder Bay. The goal of this program is to provide effective assessment and treatment in an effort to bolster the student's ability to function in school, as well as enhance the family's capacity to support their child through that process. Active participation from the student's parent/guardian is essential. Upon completion of the program, the teacher and associated mental health professionals who have been involved in treatment will provide the student's home school with a strategic plan to assist in the student's successful transition back into that school.

Students in grades 2 through 5 whose academic success is hindered by social, emotional, and/or behavioural struggles, and where mental health assessment and treatment could be beneficial.
