About this organization

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made all of our programs and memorial events available through video-conferencing.

At BFO Ottawa we inspire hope and healing for people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Our trained facilitators have lived through similar losses.

We follow a peer support model. All programs have suggested donations. Everyone is welcome.

Today our expert facilitators run about 120 peer support groups each year, attended by more than 2000 participants. We help and support people in our community who are dealing with grief that stems from many different types of losses:

  • loss of child
  • loss of spouse
  • loss of parent
  • loss of sibling/friend
  • for youth (grades 7-12)
  • for francophones
  • by suicide
  • by substance use
  • perinatal loss
