About this organization
This United Way was created in the throws of the second world war by a civic leadership which recognized the importance of helping people in need in turbulent and stressful times. In so doing they knew then, as we do now, that when you help those least advantaged and in greatest need you build a stronger and better community which benefits everyone. This lesson of history is a crucial reminder for us now.
The role of the United Way is to help give structure to a cohesive and coordinated community wide effort which will not only help immediately and efficiently, but do so in the most coherent and effective fashion possible. Every cent well spent is a phrase which is deeply embedded in our culture. Agency and program reviews help to ensure our donors that their charitable generosity gets to the people who need it most.
