About this service
Sulah is built on the groundbreaking work of the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW (CMW) that started in 2012 as a pro-active response to the experiences of Islamophobic hate incidents shared by CMW members and volunteers. The CMW has continued this work, building understanding between the Muslim and broader community and strengthening the voices of Muslim women in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.
CJI and CMW are currently working collaboratively to explore applications of restorative justice as a means of prevention and intervention in incidents motivated by Islamophobia, as well as other forms of hate. The use of restorative justice practices in instances of hate can involve bringing parties together for dialogue to address harm and build understanding, among other techniques.
