Child Witness Centre of Waterloo Region

The Child Witness Centre provides court preparation, court accompaniment, advocacy and support for child victims and witnesses under the age of 18 who are involved in the criminal justice system in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. All of our services are provided free of charge and we assist children, youth and their families through the entire court process, that can often last over two years. Support includes education, ongoing communication, assessment, and support to ensure that the court process does not re-traumatize the child. We also provide proactive awareness and education to the community about the challenges faced by young victims, and how to reduce the risk of being victimized. Through the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, we support children and youth who are victims or witnesses of abuse by providing oversight of the Centre, and by providing Advocates working as part of a multidisciplinary team ensuring these victims are supported from the time they disclose.
