Contact Interculturel Francophone De Sudbury (CIFS)

In its early days, Contact interculturel francophone de Sudbury (CIFS) was made up of only a small group of immigrants, since at the time Sudbury did not attract many French-speaking immigrants from other countries. The founding members were essentially professionals and academics who had decided to create an organization around which Francophone immigrants in Sudbury could gather. This cadre of French-speaking immigrants was first called Groupe du Moulin Fleurs. In 1997, this group undertook a feasibility study highlighting the needs and concerns of the Francophone host community, Francophone Immigrant Community and newcomers. Following this study, the organization was created in 1998 and adopted the name Contact interculturel francophone de Sudbury. CIFS offers community social programs and services tailored to the needs of French-speaking immigrants in the Greater Sudbury area. Following its incorporation as a non-profit organization, it has considerably increased its programs and services and diversified its activities in order to welcome and integrate French-speaking immigrants in the region.
