About this service
It is estimated that 2-10% of older adults will experience one or more forms of abuse at some point during their senior years. For Peel, that works out to about 130,000 seniors. Most victims are abused by someone close to them, such as a partner, relative, friend or caregiver. Those who are being abused may be unwilling or unable to report it due to a number of reasons; isolation, dependency, fear, control. In partnership with Family Services of Peel, Spectra Helpline manages the Peel Elder Abuse Support Program. As part of our commitment to reduce the number of incidents of elder abuse, and to support those being abused, Spectra Helpline will provide staff to:
- Present/talk about Elder Abuse and its impact, and
- Talk to the media on the subject of Elder Abuse
