About this organization

Being the sole caregiver for someone at home on a 24 hour-a-day basis can be very stressful and exhausting. If caregivers receive no help or relief, their own health may deteriorate and this may result in the person needing care having to leave his or her home to live in a personal care home or other facility. Respite care can provide temporary relief for caregivers so that they have time for themselves, for rest and relaxation, or to spend time with other family members.

Respite care may be provided at the persons home for a few hours a week, or it may be a planned short-term stay in a facility, such as a nursing home or Personal Care Home, to allow the caregiver to have a break. Respite care may be provided alone or in conjunction with other home support services.
