About this organization

Since 1833 when Fr. Berney first arrived and established St. Patricks Parish in Burin, Catholics have strived to build up the Church on the Burin Peninsula. Fr. Berney ministered in this area for most of his life, establishing missions on the Burin Peninsula and the South Coast. He was instrumental in raising the level of education of young people establishing schools throughout the region. In 1909 Sacred Heart Parish was established to serve the needs of Catholics in the Marystown Area.

Today St. Patricks and Sacred Heart with the mission of St. Joan of Arc have come together to serve the needs of Catholics residing in the central area of the Burin Peninsula, located on the South Coast of the island of Newfoundland.
