About this service
Palliative Manitobas Volunteer Visiting Service provides companionship to individuals who are living with a life-limiting illness. This service gives much needed support for families during end-of-life care.
All volunteers are carefully selected and trained. Volunteer visitors offer a respectful and supportive relationship with family members and their loved one by offering practical, emotional, and spiritual support.
Volunteers:
- Help lessen the feelings of loneliness
- Offer support for clients and family members
- Assist with outings
- Provide caregiver with short breaks
- Assist in recreational activities
The Volunteer Visiting Service is offered in Winnipeg and provides up to four hours of companionship per week at no cost to the individual or family. This service is offered in the Palliative Care Units at Riverview Health Centre and St. Boniface General Hospital; and in their home.
Individuals are referred through the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Program.
