About this service
The purpose of the Literacy Program is to provide women in the Winnipeg Remand Centre with regularly scheduled fun activities with a Stage One literacy focus (e.g. literacy bingo with literacy-related items for prizes, such as popular magazines, soft cover books, or chocolates, etc). This program is a classroom-facilitation based program with up to 20 women participating in each session. Women sign up to participate in the program in advance during the week. However, due to the changing nature of the Winnipeg Remand Centre population from week to week, new women continually sign up to take part in Literacy, making each session different from the last.
