About this service
This was the original service offered by CFCS in 1974. The mandate of Community Income Tax Service was to offer an alternative to the unregulated preparation of income tax returns and excessive discounting (where the preparer kept an unreasonable amount of the tax refund) of tax returns. CFCS was part of a community movement to develop legislation to regulate these activities and to set limits on the portion of a tax return that could be kept by a tax preparer. With more low-cost and volunteer tax preparation services in the community, the program has been reduced. CFCS prepares tax returns for those whom simple tax preparation is a function of their financial counselling.
