About this service
The Downtown Eastside Central Kitchen is a non-profit food preparation and delivery service operated by the PHS, and made possible by support from Sanford Housing Society and BC Housing. It is dedicated to combating malnutrition among the communitys low-income people. Residents of every PHS-operated housing project in the DTES receive at least one hot meal a day and residents participating in more supportive programs receive three hot meals a day. This program has its own particular challenges, in that it is often difficult to get food for people in run down SROs without elevators.
