District of Summerland fosters a progressive, healthy, and innovative community by continually improving our social, environmental, cultural, and economic well-being for present and future generations. Incorporated in 1906, the District of Summerland has a current population of just over 12,000 and is a rural municipality in the Okanagan Valley situated between Kelowna and Penticton on the traditional territory of the syilx People of the Okanagan Nation. A member municipality of the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen, Summerland has an area of 73.8 square kilometers with vineyards, orchards, mountains, and sandy beaches offering breathtaking views in all four seasons. One of Summerlands landmarks is Giants Head Mountain, an extinct volcano with stunning panoramic views of Lake Okanagan. Summerland is also home to last remaining stretch of the historic Kettle Valley Railway. The traditional fruit growing, and agricultural industries have been expanding and evolving to include wineries, cideries and other innovative businesses to explore and enjoy. Summerland is an active community that provides opportunities for all ages; hiking and mountain biking trails, golfing, swimming beaches, tennis, pickleball, camping, boating, sailing, Skatepark, Aquatic Centre, Arena, and more. In addition, families are attracted to parks, programs for children, excellent schools, a vibrant arts and cultural scene, and small-town way of life. Summerlands downtown is full of unique local shops and businesses that offer a variety of shopping, dining, recreation, and arts and cultural experiences.
