Escort Service

From the beginning of our Auxiliary, two members would visit patients each day. Volunteers would also do letter writing, mailing and shopping for patients. At Easter, flowers where put on patients trays. At Christmas, chocolates where put out at the nurses stations. Christmas trees where put up, and decorated by our Candy Stripers. On Christmas morning, three volunteers would visit every patient and every patient was given a gift. The Candy Stripers would sing Christmas carols. Our Escort Service today provides transportation of patients from their rooms to X-ray and CAT scan. Volunteers work Monday to Friday, from 10:00am to 12:00 noon, but will stay later if hospital staff asks them to. The Escort Service also delivers mail upstairs, take earphones to TVs on the 4th floor, deliver water to patients and water plants and flowers if needed. Escort volunteers are a compassionate group of ladies; they visit patients and lend an ear if someone wants to talk. These members see patients at their worst, and when the patient has made recovery. Confidentiality is an absolute must! Just like doctors and nurses, what our volunteers see and hear in the hospital, must not leave the hospital.
