Personal Support

This program provides an individualized and personalized approach to meeting the needs of eligible adults by coordinating existing community supports to help the person maintain or increase their independence. Services, types of support that may be provided include: Supported living-daily living assistance to individuals who own, rent or lease their own homes. Support may be one-to-one or in groups. Employment-assists individuals to acquire employment-related skills. Skill development-develops skills required for healthy, independent living. Service may be one-to-one or in groups. Inclusion-for individuals who require ongoing support to participate in community in a meaningful way. Service may be home-based or within the community and may have a vocational, social and/or recreational focus. Support network development-service is tailored to the unique needs of the individual and may involve resource, referral, education, training, scheduling, advocacy or connecting with peers in the community. Helps the individual to identify, build and access their own personal/natural networks to enable greater personal and community safety, self-determination and independence.

Adults may apply if they: have significant challenges with day-to-day living (adaptive functioning) andhave a diagnosis of FASD or ASD. Youth may apply when they are over the age of 16 to receive supports when they become 19 years of age. Individuals must be referred through community living bc (CLBC). When individuals apply, CLBC will need to confirm they are not eligible for developmental disability services.
