Lurline Raposo - Child & Adolescent Sessions

Play Therapists complete extensive training in child development, attachment (bonding), and using play , creative and expressive interventions to understand and exploring the feelings, thoughts and behaviours of young people. I can also incorporate more traditional talk therapy and cognitive behavioural strategies to support change. My preferred tool is definitely the sand tray since it can be very effective for all ages even adults.

The first session will consist of meeting with parents or caregivers to carefully collect information about the childs and familys history and challenges. The goals and plan for therapy will also be established in the first few sessions once the Play Therapist has completed the assessment process. Usually the second session includes the young person alone. Depending on problem, the parent or caregiver may or may not be included in future sessions.
