About this service
Skills for Safer Living is a four-week program targeted towards young individuals aged 12-24 and their caregivers, focusing on understanding and addressing ideas related to suicide. The program includes weekly 90-minute sessions aimed at building skills to maintain personal safety. Concurrent meetings are held for caregivers, which aim to equip them with similar knowledge and foster a sense of mutual support. The courses revolve around basic language, skills, and strategies to understand the emotional process associated with suicide and ways to alleviate said feelings. Upon completion of the program, each participant will have designed a safety plan. The program is run by the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention in association with the Centre for Suicide Prevention in Calgary and is funded by the Government of Alberta. Registration is free, and the program is scheduled to commence from April 2023.
