A psychoeducational assessment is a one-on-one, individualized testing process performed by a psychologist. They are designed to measure and observe behavior, attention, learning, and socio-emotional and cognitive functioning, and typically include standardized measures of intellectual functioning, academic achievement, attention, and behavior. Psychological assessments are often used to arrive at (or rule out) a diagnosis and can help guide treatment planning. Who are assessments for? Schools and/or parents typically request psychoeducational assessments for children to answer questions like, "why does my child struggle with attention?" And "why is my child receiving low grades at school?" (Among others). Parents will often notice their child having difficulty with reading, writing, math, or attention/focus, and seek a psychoeducational assessment to explore possible learning or attention disorders. Adults also request psychological assessments. Often, adults present with concerns related to inattention, focus, and distractibility, and seek out an assessment to explore possible attention disorders. What types of assessments do you offer? We offer psychoeducational assessments to explore concerns around learning, cognitive abilities, socio-emotional functioning, and attention. We also offer adult adhd assessments. What is the investment? Assessments typically take place over a 68-week period, and range from $1200-$2000, depending on the scope and complexity. What is the process? Step 1: book a complimentary 15-minute phone call with our testing provisional psychologist. She will ask you about your reason for seeking an assessment and what questions you are hoping to answer and determine if an assessment is a good fit at this time. Step 2: your provisional psychologist will schedule a 30-minute virtual meeting to explain the assessment process, discuss informed consent, and answer any questions you may have. After this meeting, you will decide if you want to move forward with the assessment. Step 3: if you decide to move forward, your provisional psychologist will schedule a 1-hour interview. If you are requesting an assessment for your child, the provisional psychologist will interview all legal parent(s)/guardian(s). If you are an adult requesting an assessment for yourself, the provisional psychologist will interview you. In this interview, you will be asked information about the history of the presenting concern and current functioning. Step 4: you may be sent questionnaires to complete. If you are requesting an assessment for your child, your provisional psychologist may, with your permission, send questionnaires to your childs teacher to complete. Step 5: you and/or the child will come for in-person testing sessions, usually 2-3 hours each. There may be between 1-3 testing sessions. Step 6: the feedback session. Your provisional psychologist will review all the information and synthesize it into a written report. She will present her interpretations and results of the assessment, and the written report to you during this feedback session. You will have the opportunity to share any questions or concerns with your provisional psychologist. Get in touch
