W.A. Day Elementary School - First Nations, Metis, and Inuit (FNMI) Team

We have FNMI staff at the school who work closely with students, administrators, the learning support team, and teaching staff to support student success. Our goal is to take a holistic approach and look at the whole child to ensure balance in all four areas: spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental.

Our FNMI team strives to create and maintain an environment that reflects authentic First Nations, Metis, and Inuit cultures by incorporating cultural programming, FNMI classroom resources and curriculum support, and Elders visit to share traditional knowledge. In the New Year, students will be invited to participate in a variety of leadership groups such as Blackfoot Culture Synergy Group, Young Painted Horse/ Painted Ponies, Native Drum and Dance, and Traditional Beading Programs.

The team is strengthening relationships with both Kainai and Piikani along with surrounding organizations to ensure the development and growth of FNMI culture within our school.
