About this service
The Chimo Youth Retreat Centre operates 6 Group Care Transitional SIL Homes; 3 Coed Homes, 2 Homes for pregnant or parenting teens and 1 Solo with Supports Transition Home.
The Homes provide a safe and supportive environment to assist youth preparing to return home or transition into an independent or semi-independent living setting.
A hands-on approach to learning basic life skills, includes:
- Nutrition and meal preparation
- Personal Wellness
- Interpersonal Skills
- Problem Solving
- Time management
- Study / Work Skills
- Effective Parenting
Youth learn and understand the need to assume responsibility for their actions, identify their assets and skills and care for themselves. Once this self-responsibility is adequately internalized the youth becomes a candidate to return home or to transfer to an independent living program.
Case Workers make their referrals to the Regional Placement Coordination Unit-Region 6.
