About this service
Seniors and youth connect in a new project supported by the Saskatoon Community Foundation and operated by the Saskatoon Council on Aging [SCOA]. The Senior and Youth Connections project matches youth and older adults to work together and learn from each other. The connections combat social isolation experienced by older adults and also keeps them mentally engaged for improved health and well-being. Youth develop positive attitudes about aging and develop leadership skills through assisting seniors to use technology. By working together towards a common goal, youth and seniors learn to communicate with each other and get to know each other as unique individuals which helps break down negative stereotypes. Seniors and youth will connect through ZOOM or other online video conferencing tools. Seniors will be matched with students to use technology one-on-one or in virtual presentations. Intergenerational relationships contribute to better understanding between generations and reduce negative stereotypes about aging.
