Motivated by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, Micah created an Indigenous Awareness program in 2018 to better support our Indigenous clients. Over 50% of the clients that Micah works with are Indigenous. Through community engagement, relationship building, anti-racism and anti-oppression training, and culturally-informed education the Indigenous Awareness program provides cultural awareness and understanding for Micah staff, board, and volunteers to better support the relationships between clients and their supports, and ensure clients are being served in culturally-appropriate ways.
