WHAT W E PROVIDE The residents of this shelter are offered a variety of support services to help create a path toward independent living, positive parenting, and self reliance. The homes are monitored, staffed 24/7 and offer the residents one-onone counselling in areas such as: Healthy lifestyle choices. Positive parenting. Life skills. Time management. Proper nutrition. Budgeting. Elders support. Support staff will assist clients with referrals to the food bank, mental health, addictions services, career counseling, and recreational programing. During their stay, staff will meet with clients on a weekly basis to develop a personal case plan which outlines their short term and long term goals. NIWAAPATAHANANNIK HOME (W E ARE SHOWING THEM) Niwaapatahanannik is a Cree word meaning we are showing them. The Niwa Home is an 11 suite apartment building. As of July 1, 2012, Niwa Home was restructured to accommodate two parent families and single dads who have children in foster care with the Ministry of Social Services (MSS) or at risk of having their children placed in care. This home also helps families who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness and in need of a variety of supports to help create a path toward independent living. A clients length of stay is anywhere from 6 months to 1 year.
