In the Cree language, Kanaweyimik is a word meaning we are keeping them. Kanaweyimik Home is a 12 suite apartment building. Kanaweyimik is a low risk home for women who may be at risk of having their children placed in foster care with the Ministry of Social Services (MSS). All our clients are referrals from the Ministry of Social Services and upon intake can be placed in 1 of 3 homes based on their individual assessment. A client can go straight into Kanaweyimik Home or be transitioned out of Kanaweyimik Home if they have been sober/drug free for 6 months to 1 year. A clients length of stay may be longer if required What we Provide Kanaweyimik Home provides safe and secure housing for up to twelve individuals. In addition, supports are provided to assist the women in reaching their goals of maintaining or regaining care of their children. Kanaweyimik Home also provides assistance to women who want to obtain employment, advance their education or take further training to be able to live independently. Kanaweyimik Home is staffed 24 hours with qualified staff who will connect residents with programming in areas of: Healthy lifestyles. Relationship building. Positive parenting. Life skill building. Self confidence and self respect. Positive and effective communication. Career counseling and recreation. Education assessment. Safety and nutrition. Mental health and addictions. Elders support. During their stay at Kanaweyimik Home, staff will assist the resident in developing personal case plans that will be tailored to set and meet goals using a holistic approach and develop a plan for when residents leave Kanaweyimik Home. mission: The overall goals of Kanaweyimik Home is to prepare residents for successful independent living with 0% chance of their children going back into the care of Ministry of Social Services (MSS). Kanaweyimik strives to improve social and economic condition, as well as quality and standards if life for aboriginal and non-aboriginal people.
