Wildwood Mennonite Church

When you first attend Wildwood There are a few things that you can expect when you arrive, join us in worship, and also when you leave. Were an informally dressed, inter-generational congregation composed of a variety of backgrounds and family compositions. On an average Sunday about 80 folks are liable to be there. When you first arrive ushers and other friendly faces will greet you in a busy, bright and open lobby. Before worship make sure that you grab a hymnal from the shelves to the left or right of the sanctuary. A person from within the congregation is the designated Worship Leader who will guide the congregation through worship. During worship you can expect a variety of singing (both songs with a single melody lines and four part harmony) and possibly some special worship music (that never gets too loud). There will also be scripture reading, call and responses, a sermon/message/discussion, a childrens story, and an open mic time for people to share the highs and lows of life and support each other in prayer. There is quite a bit of standing and sitting (as you are able). If you happen to come on a Sunday where Communion is served at Wildwood we practice an open table where everyone is welcome. If it would be meaningful for you, join in. If not, sit it out. We celebrate the ritual in a variety of ways, and its usually easy to opt in or out. We typically serve grape juice instead of wine and theres normally a gluten-free bread option, too. Whether we can have refreshments or not, many people stick around to chat for awhile after the service. Make sure to inquire about adult or childrens Sunday school. If its the summer time, feel free to have a look at our community garden and watch the veggies grow!

Be Connected Beyond Sunday Mornings. Small GroupsLots of us like to build connections through small groups. Things are always adapting to suit our people and that leads to things like quilting groups, book clubs and Bible study and discussion groups. Some may get together on regular schedules like womens groups or informal supper clubs. Sometimes groupings form as inspiration strikes for a faith-related movie night, a kitchen event or a topical study. If you want to know whats going on currently or have an idea for the next great thing, contact the church office and ask to be added to our email list. Our community garden, adjacent to the church, feeds the church members and neighbours who care for it and other hungry Saskatonians in association with great organizations like CHEP (Child Hunger & Education Program). In an effort to keep our building serving the community it is shared with other community organizations like language classes, music programs and support groups. We are also active participants in the work of Mennonite Central Committee Saskatchewan and its work with Refugee Assistance, Restorative Justice, Aboriginal Neighbours, the Village Green thrift store, global relief and peace-building efforts and more. People help by planning Sunday services, shovelling the walkways, keeping up the library or rolling up their sleeves in the kitchen. Teens can use mentors and folks need rides. Whether planning, caring, cooking or singing, everyone has something to offer. Theres always a spot to fill here in the church or elsewhere in Gods wide world.
