About this service
Provide 24 / 7 access to advanced stroke care using CT and TeleStroke technology via Emergency Departments.
Primary Stroke Centre Emergency Departments are linked to Comprehensive Stroke Centres via TeleStroke for immediate consultation with a stroke neurologist. This doctor can see the patient and the CT image remotely. This allows the patient to be assessed and treated without having to be transported first.
Working with the Emergency Department doctor, the stroke neurologist can assess if the patient needs a clot-dissolving medicine to limit the effects of an acute stroke. They can also determine if the patient is a candidate for clot removal (Endovascular Thrombectomy - EVT) which is performed at the Comprehensive Stroke Centres.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transport to the nearest Primary or Comprehensive Stroke Centre in rural regions to improve accessibility for advanced stroke treatment.
