About this service
CNIB is a major producer of accessible-format literature for print-disabled individuals, producing thousands of titles each year.
CNIBs Montreal studios record French-language audio books. We also record magazines including Bel ge, lActualit, Slection du Reader Digest.
More than 60 volunteer readers and technicians enable us to add an average of 200 more French audio books and magazines per year to the collection.
You can access these through Canadian public libraries that are members of the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA).
History
In the mid-1960s, the CNIB librarys Montreal studios began to produce audio books for people who were blind or partially sighted. Our archives contain letters of agreement between CNIB and the Union des Artistes, Radio-Canada and Macleans magazine. You can find copies of these documents below. The first studios were on Guy St., not far from the former Radio-Canada building.
