About this service
Let's be honest: first responders see some pretty intense shit. And, despite the persistence of outdated ideas about how having feelings is a sign of weakness, you'd have to be a robot not to be affected by seeing that kind of stuff day in and day out. Neuroscience has shown that brains respond in very predictable ways to overwhelming and/or recurring traumatic situations, and the province of Ontario has finally recognized that PTSD is an occupational hazard for first responders - not because some people are weak, but because that's just how brains work. The good news is, counselling has been proven to be extremely effective in resolving Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Transformation Counselling offers a variety of clinical interventions to help people deal with the anxiety, anger, depression, addiction, flashbacks, and sleeping difficulties that characterize PTSD. In addition to their general clinical training, many of our therapists have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and/or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for trauma.
