About this service
Outreach is especially valuable to us at Sanctuary, because it gives us a chance to meet people on their own turf. This upends the usual power dynamics of service provider and service recipient, because people who are homeless or engaged in street life are the experts and leaders on the streets. We see the gospel in this; the last shall be first, and the first shall be last.
Some of our outreach work look like traditional street outreach. We walk the streets, mostly in the downtown east side, but sometimes farther afield, offering water, socks, snacks, healthcare supplies, and an invitation to stop by Sanctuary sometime for a meal or a chat. We do this at varied times throughout the week, to catch different crowds and reach as many folks as we can.
