OHRN - Introduction to Substance Use

Our in-person events include presentations, exercises, videos, group discussion, and case studies designed to respond to a mix of learning styles. We develop our content and co-facilitate with people who use drugs and local partners. We will work with your organization to tailor existing workshops or develop content based on your needs. Depending on staff size, we offer in-house training, or we support you to plan a Local or RegionalNetworking Event with other allied services in your area.

We aim to increase participants understanding of substance use so that they can better support people in their lives who may use substances, including clients, friends and family. We will:

• Think about reasons people may or may not use substances.
• Look at the continuum of use and consider the stages of change.
• Learn about the different methods of taking substances and associated benefits and risks.
• Examine our own attitudes, values and beliefs and briefly consider drug related stigma.
